Thursday held every member of my
family with anticipation. There was much preparation before the event.
Contraband in the form of candy was purchased and safely hidden in large purses
and pockets to avoid detection. Previously ordered tickets were carefully
placed in an easily accessible pouch in my purse. Words of comfort were offered
to my parents over the contents of what we were about to see. With that we were off.
Outside the lines were fairly
short. This confused me, since there had been much hype in the media about it. We
waited eagerly in the front of the line for twenty minutes only to find we were
in the wrong area. No wonder! We pushed our way through the mass of
people to the front searching for the line for our particular tickets. It was
rather tragic that we didn’t notice the error of our ways sooner. No matter.
The back of the line wasn’t too bad, and besides, we were determined to enjoy
ourselves immensely. The crowds were heaving with excitement. At random people
would exclaim their excitement in a particular gesture or comment that would
produce a roar of approval or a loud boo. The group we were in tried many times
to bribe the employees to sneak us higher up the line, but were only laughed
off. Besides, I think if we had the people would have had our heads.
At last we were allowed into the dark room to find our seats. It was a
madhouse. At first it looked like we would have to find separate seats, but the
boys found a row at the very top with just enough for us all. The ruckus continued
with people calling for their stranded members to join them. Someone in our
group thought it was entertaining to randomly yell for a Bob to come join us.
No Bob came, but it did cause people to look and laugh.
Finally the lights dimmed and the
movie began. The Dark Night was just as I anticipated: dark, psychotic, thrilling….right
up my ally. With each new scene the crowd would thunder with cheers and yells of approval. It was definitly worth all the drama to experience.
We left the theater dazed and
happy.
For all of you skeptics, this new
installment of Batman is beyond good. It’s just the epitome of coolness. Oh, and Midnight showings are the bomb.
